Phantom Islands Theatrical Release in Zürich

I am delighted to announce that PHANTOM ISLANDS will be getting a two-week Zürich city theatrical release at Kino Stüssihof starting on July 25th 2019. This is a dream come true as it is the very first time that one of my feature films get a proper cinema release. Also, it is worth mentioning that the run might extend if the reception is reasonably stable, so if you are living or passing through Zürich, please catch and watch the film in the cinema. My colleague and dear friend, Jann Clavadetscher, who worked extensively on the movie will be in Zürich on the opening day to present the film.
Phantom Islands was completed at the start of the year 2018. Funded by The Arts Council Ireland / An Chomhairle Ealaíon under the Reel Art scheme, it premiered at Virgin Media Dublin International Film Festival. Since then it has received over thirty screenings in festivals and at cinemas around the world, including the Cinemateca Portuguesa (Portugal), Festival du Nouveau Cinéma (Canada), Thai Film Archive (Thailand), Kino Meeting Point (Bosnia and Herzegovina) and European Film Festival Bucharest (Romania). It won the Best Experimental Feature Film Award at Istanbul International Experimental Film Festival and had an entire issue of the magazine Film Panic exclusively dedicated to its making. It has been widely written about by critics such as Adrian Martin and Fergus Daly, and in journals including Desistfilm, The Art(s) of Slow Cinema and CinePensieri.
Phantom Islands is an experimental film that exists at the boundary of documentary and fiction. It follows a couple adrift and disoriented in the stunning landscape of Ireland’s islands. Yet this deliberately melodramatic romance is constantly questioned by a provocative cinematic approach that ultimately results in a hypnotic and visceral inquiry into the very possibility of documentary objectivity.
